I don't want to judge the gap in ability from an 8-0 scoreline alone. In development work, it's the substitutes' performance in lopsided games that tells you more. Fiji's tight win might actually carry more useful material going forward. The numbers show up later.
Bottom line first: New Zealand's eight goals were something else. But beyond the scoreline, Fiji's grit in winning despite conceding three deserves a look too. Watching the full ninety, I'd say the semi-final is where this really starts.
Structurally, the gap within the group showed up directly in the score. New Zealand's high press worked well — whether it's repeatable will show in the semi-final. Fiji's close match, by contrast, is a better test of their ability to adjust.

The MSG Prime Minister's Cup, Melanesia's oldest international football championship, kicks off September 18 in Suva, Fiji, with Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea playing a round-robin format. Founded in 1988, the tournament's final is set for October 3.
The OFC U-16 Women's Championship semi-finals at Honiara's National Stadium pit seven-time champions New Zealand against Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia against Fiji. The winners qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco, and either New Caledonia or Fiji would reach a first-ever world tournament in the process.
New Zealand beat Tahiti 2-0 in the OFC U-19 Men's Championship final to claim a record tenth title. An own goal just before half-time put them ahead, and Harley Hill added a second in the 79th minute. Both finalists have now qualified for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
