The moment I saw the spec sheet, I felt a flicker of confusion, followed by an odd sort of delight.

From here, my own opinion: line the Z1100 up against rivals on a horsepower chart and it probably loses. I still think the choice is the right one. The question is how many times a year you're actually opening the throttle to 9,000rpm on public roads. And the SE gets 41mm KYB inverted forks, an Öhlins S46 rear shock, Brembo M4.32 calipers with 300mm discs, a six-axis IMU, and a 5-inch TFT display. Chassis went up; the engine leaned toward the middle. Looking at the spec sheet, you can see exactly the order the development team assigned its budget. That's the part I find irresistible.

One more thing worth noting about how to read a spec sheet. According to Motorcycle.com's first-look report, the standard model and the SE draw a clear line at suspension and brakes — only the SE gets the Öhlins rear shock and radial-mount Brembos.
